The nine-month-old baby would be able to have breastmilk today as her mother is released on bail from jail after nearly two months. Jasmine Jahan Nitto should have been given bail the day she was produced before a Dhaka court though she and her husband had committed serious crimes and gone into hiding as soon as a journalist reported the torture of their housemaid, little Happy, on September 7.
Her name doesn’t represent her days of agonies at the house of the couple in question. Her body bears numerous marks of injuries.
Though the cricket board suspended Kazi Shahadat Hossain soon after the case was filed, Shahadat and his wife remained traceless for a month. I guess the infant was with them at that time.
However, I don’t understand why the court didn’t grant her bail on the first day, and also why her lawyers sought bail now, two months after she was sent to jail, keeping the infant away!
Apart from the rude judge, I’d also blame the lawyer for the baby’s sufferings. The media should also be held responsible for not highlighting the matter much earlier.
By the way, for those who can’t understand easily, I demand exemplary punishment of the couple.
