My heartiest thanks to the reporter and editor for presenting such a big sea of history in a small bottle. I condemn the government action against the bloggers and online activists and inaction regarding the perpetrators of the recent brutal attacks.

It’s no way acceptable but also not something new given that the constitution of this country has “secularism” as one of the four principles, but also acknowledges Islam as the “state religion”. The govt didn’t fix the misdeeds made by the previous military dictators — Ziaur Rahman and HM Ershad — regarding religion when the constitution was last amended in 2011.

As a result of the dilemma, the administration is often seen idle in case of any attack against the non-Muslims by Muslims, no matter which party they belong!

Moreover, the prime minister recently joined an international movement of the Muslim countries to improve the image of Islam, as a tool against the so-called “Islamophobia”. She has declared that Dhaka would be the capital of Islamic culture of Asia.
